Your Guide to 2015 Kids Summer Camps in Alaska

    The weather outside may be frightful, but we’re ready to start planning for a new season in Alaska! If you live in Anchorage, the Mat-Su Valley or the surrounding areas, thinking ahead may include mapping out vacations and registering your kids for summer camp.

    We’re happy to help you get started on your summer plans and stay organized with our 2015 Alaska Kids Summer Camp Planner. Here are just a few of the kids summer camps ready to kick off in Alaska this summer:

    Eagle River Trailside Discovery
    Where: Eagle River Nature Center
    Who: Ages 4-12
    When: Programs from May 26-July 2; 9 AM to 4 PM
    : $235/week

    Day programs in the Eagle River Trailside Discovery Camp will focus on natural history, natural sciences and nature crafting, in addition to leadership and outdoor skills. Campers will explore forests, trails and bogs, all while learning about nature! Programs include: Wilderness Survival, Aqua Mania, Dinosaur Rex, River Wranglers, Salmon Snoopers, and Birds, Bugs and Bears

    Anchorage Trailside Discovery
    Where: Campbell Creek Science Center
    Who: Ages 4-14
    When: Programs from May 26-July 2

    Day programs at the Campbell Creek Science Center this summer will have something for everyone, ages 4 and up! Programs include: Habitat Hunters, Creek Seekers, Arctic Artists, Seaside Safari, Reach High, Operation Farming, iAlaska, Jurassic Journey and more.

    Eagle River Summer Recreation Day Camp
    Where: Eagle River/Chugiak Parks and Recreation
    Who: Ages 5-13
    When: June 2-August 8, 2015; 7 AM to 6 PM
    Cost: $160/week

    This summer-long recreation camp is now in its 24th year, offering physical education, arts & crafts, outdoor education, field trips, swimming, field games, hiking and biking. Open registration starts April 24, weekdays from 9 AM to 5 PM (except from noon-1 PM) and will continue until camp is full.

    Archaeology Camp
    Where: University of Alaska Museum of the North
    Who: Students entering Grades 4-6
    When: June 15-19; 9 AM to Noon
    Cost: $175

    Working with professional archaeologists, campers can experience a simulated dig, explore museum artifacts and see what being an archaeologist is all about. This camp will also dive into the history of Alaska‘s native cultures through its various activities.

    Music Camp
    Where: University of Alaska, Old UPark Building Room 156
    Who: Students entering Grades 2-3 and Grades 4-6
    When: July 6-10— Grades 2-3 from 9 AM to Noon; Grades 4-6 from 1-4 PM
    Cost: $175

    Two instructors will lead this camp through singing, dancing, composing and playing instrumentsCampers will learn about music through games and play, exploring how it is a part of our every day lives.

    Robot Quest Camp
    Where: Denali Montessori
    Who: Ages 9-11
    When: June 8-12; 9 AM to 4 PM
    Cost: $255

    This summer camp through the Anchorage Museum lets kids learn to use LEGO education software and parts to build working robots. The robots built in Robot Quest Camp will face challenges and complete tasks including retrieving objects and making sharp turns.

    Challenger Soccer Camp
    Where: Bumpus Ball Fields; Wasilla
    Who: Ages 3+
    When: June 15-19
    Cost: Starts at $50

    A favorite soccer camp in the area and one of the most popular in the country in terms of their approach to youth sports. This week-long camp will teach key techniques and skills of the game, including drills, freestyle and a few mini scrimmage matches.

    CYSA UK Soccer Camp
    Where: Mirror Lake Middle School; Chugiak
    Who: Ages 4-14
    When: June 9-13; June 23-27; June 30-July 3; July 21-25
    Cost: Classic Camp (9 AM to Noon)- $109; Full Day (9 AM to 3 PM)- $165

    This year, there are four sessions to choose from for the awesome UK soccer camps! They provide international coaching pros at every child’s age level, giving kids both an education and fun experience with the sport!
